Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Soldier...

Steve Harvey may have gotten a lot of flack for coming out with his book; "Act Like a Lady, Think Like A Man," but after watching the film based on it - I've got to give him respect. So many times, us women settle for lives we're not destined to live; the man who doesn't want to commit, the ambition-less bum who'll live off you forever, the complacent one. It's usually because we've lost faith in ourselves and our ability to find the right man. I've been there. We all go through it at least once. 


The beauty of being a woman is - that at some point, we realize that the life we're living is not the one for us. Hence the difference between being female and being a woman. Females grow, women evolve. I could never go back to the woman I was a year ago, because I realize she wasn't pursuing her own happiness. She was stressing herself out over the lives of others, stretching and molding to keep certain people in her life. People who didn't deserve to be there. People who aren't there now. These are the blessings of evolution. I have hurt, loved and lost - and the one thing I can say I drew from each piece of pain is a lesson. Never make the same mistake thrice. After all, we're human - right? 


So, the title, "Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man" carries so many meanings, but the one I drew from it was pretty easy. Play it cool through life. Work it out in your head - but keep your game face on. Even when you wanna bug out on the inside. Nobody needs to know. Those are the guys who get ahead in life. Shoot, those are the guys who get head.

What's so wrong with masturbation? It's a natural part of life - isn't it? Don't sit in front of this screen and say you've never. If a kitten really died every time - I'd have cleared out the stray pet population before I reached 21 years old. I see nothing wrong with this. In fact, I think it could keep so many of us out of trouble. Reach out and touch something...


Sometimes it's the only way I get a good night's sleep. One go at it and I'm beat. Lol, now I see what they mean by I act like a guy. Seems like they've got it all figured out. 

2am and I'm still awake. I've exhausted all my usual avenues of provoking sleep; reading, writing, homework, television, music. Looks like I've reached the final straw - time to break the emergency glass and pull out the bullet.

The Weeknd - May 1 at Revolution Live. Yesssss...

I got a text from my brother at work today that the Weeknd is performing in Fort Lauderdale next month. Naturally, I started growling at my desk. I am so excited!! You know I'll be front and center for this. I am so glad LittleBrother brought the Weeknd into my life. He's taken me places that I didn't want to go, and I really needed that to push me out of some very dark places. Abel Tesfaye just doesn't know how awesome he is. 

And so - I sit here in front of my computer - 30minutes after midnight, refreshing the TicketMaster and LiveNation pages until the tickets go on sale. You think I won't do this all night?

Hmmm. I've got to make an outfit. I wanna be sober for this...

_No Sleep til Brooklyn - and other New York Ish...

I spent last weekend on a lovely few days off in New York. First stop was Yonkers to spend time with my brother, his fiance and my God Children. I love seeing positive family environments, and they are simply beautiful...






Next stop was Brooklyn to spend a few days with my homegirls. There's no better cure for the blues than good company, laughs and libations.

 Love em all! 

Swung back uptown to see my Littles - missed LittleSister, but got to spend a little time with BabySister and BabyBoy - they were so surprised to see me, I loved it! 

Hopped on the train and head back downtown to Queens to see Grandma for her birthday - she was the highlight of my weekend. To see her laugh and smile so much is always a blessing. I love my grandma so much! 

Ugh, it felt so good to be back in my element after all these months away from NY. The weather was chilly, but I missed it so much that it didn't even matter. Had a beautiful weekend. Couldn't ask for much more.

Oh, and I learned one valuable lesson; I need a rental next time!
