Spoke-N-Heard: "BBW - Beautiful Black Woman..."

We're the woman that makes you tea
When you're sick
A warm, soft, comforting hand
On your forehead
The woman that bears your child
for nine months
And still - looks desirable
Days after giving birth
The hot meal after a long day's work
The backrub you love so much
That woman you see in the aisle
at the supermarket
You've always wanted
to approach

The lady you whistle at
as she walks to work
High heels killing her
- but you'd never know
As she ignores your whoops
and catcalls
Head heald high
Oh - and we are women,
Ladies even
Never bitches or hoes
Try calling us one -
You'll see.
The woman who waits
Patiently
For your bid to end
Hard time's not just for you
It's really for two
Sleepless, lonely nights
Until you return
Conjugal visits just ain't enough
Your woman - who after all these years
Still dolls up for every date night
Gets the kids dressed before breakfast
Piles them into the car for school
And still
Has time to straighten your tie

She makes you hold her purse at the mall
Talks through every movie
Gets on your last nerve
But -
You love her
And your life wouldn't be the same without her
Treat her right.
Because the beauty
Of being a gem
Is that she is rare
And in high demand.

Bleaching, Cake Soap, Whiteners - Ah Wah Do Dem?

As a West Indian-American young lady, I know the stereotypes and stigmas that our Carib people endure, experience and subject themselves to on a daily basis. One of those issues that we still battle to this day is the skin color/skin tone issue. Light-skinned versus Dark-skinned. This is an age old battle that never seems to get old - but is continually growing into a cancer in our communities. The latest headline maker is Jamaica's own Vybz Kartel, who was known for making fun of those who bleach - but is now doing it himself.

Even non-Caribbean people know Vybz for his catchy Dancehall
songs like "Tek Buddy Gyal," off 2000's "Tunda Clap Riddim." That song was his breakthrough hit - and was all over NYC's radio stations that summer. His recent hit., "Clarks" is an ode to the ever-so-popular Clark's Wallabee shoe that is a staple item in the Yardie closet.

Kartel is noticeably a dark-skinned man in all of his pictures, but has been getting notably lighter as the years progress. His 2008 beef with international Dancehall star Mavado brought his skin issue to light. The diss track "Shotta Nuh Bleach Wid Cream" was a blatant shot at Kartel using lighteners on his skin. Not having been to Jamaica for some amount of years, I wouldn't have a clue that this was going on. Seeing him in his music videos, though - made this evident.

Take a look at him now:
Clearly, this man has some identity issues. Is this the image that we're sending out to our young Island kids?
It's hard enough knowing that they're out there listening to "Beg Yuh a F*ck," and "Rompin' Shop" - but to see them following after their favorite artist in such an unhealthy way? We don't think Jamaica has enough problems? Jeezam.

Kartel speaks on bleaching here:

I've covered stories on Jamaican families bleaching in my old blog "Dem Ah Bleach ((2008))"  - and it seems I must bring back the topics of empowerment and embracing who we are. Not only is this saddening - it's dangerous. Bleach eats away at your skin. It's only a matter of time before it becomes something cancerous. I wonder how you write that on a funeral program...

The Look of Lust - Pontiac GTO...

We all know I'm on a car hunt right now. I'm transitioning to the American side of the automobile world, but I know little to nothing about them. One day I set eyes on a yellow bullet zooming past me on my way to work. I caught up with it at the light, and discovered the epitome of beauty:

Behold: the Pontiac GTO.

I met a man at work today. As he pushed his alarm button, the lights flashed on an impulse blue GTO. I had to talk to him. I asked him how he liked the car, he told me he's had it for five years and loves it. We talked for about 20minutes on the usual car junkie talk. Speed, performance, reliability, gas mileage. Mostly speed and performance. The more he talked, the more I fell in love. He told me I could buy one for dirt cheap, but he was clearly a man of wealth - so what's 12g's, right? That's just for a base 2007 model. This car is no longer in production.

I looked at other Pontiacs. They don't compare at all. The G6 is horrible (no offense to any owners out there), and has the lowest resale value. So, I will continue my hunt. If all else fails, it's back to the Mustang. Either way, I'm simply lusting for now...

Just a little rant.

C'est La Vie...

I received the most beautiful orchid today, and it reminded me - that life goes on. The dynamics of the orchid are simple; it blooms, it dies - it blooms again. A little water and moderate sunlight is all it takes to keep this flower alive. Quiet conversation perks its petals, don't touch too much or it may bruise.

This is my life. I bloom, I die - I bloom again. So many things take place that damage us, so many things happen that kill a little piece of our souls. It's up to us and those we love to keep us watered and happy; so that we may emerge once again. And this, my friends - is how I plan to live for the rest of my life. If I don't have the right support systems behind me, my flower is destined for failure. I must weed out the leeches, worms and snakes from my pathway and appreciate those who fertilize, water and grow my garden. I love you all. You truly make me glow.

I have experienced some things lately that opened my eyes to the realities of life. I can smile bigger now, knowing how much it hurts to cry from the depths of my soul. I will never feel that level of sadness again.
This flower that I am, can become a tree! As long as I keep my roots in good soil, I can grow as big as I want.

I know I sound crazy - but I can't find the words that my mind is trying to say right now.

Bottom line is - each time I bloom - I emerge as a better, stronger, more beautiful flower.
Watch me grow...

Spoke-N-Heard: "How You Make Me Feel..."

Like our first kiss
Do you remember?
I sit shyly on your bed
so close to the edge I may fall
You pull me closer
Not saying a word
Gently placing your hand
behind my ear
Closer, closer you lean
My god, you smell incredible
The softest lips
plant rose petals
On my quivering face
Forehead, nose,
Cheek, cheek
Mouth
Help.
Parted lips invite
your warm tongue to play
I pull you in
No turning back
The rest, as they say
is history
That rush returns
every time you enter
the room
God, you still smell incredible
This -
is how you make me feel...

Ever Been Stalked Before?

I have. And I would never think it was so easy to find my freaking address and phone number. There's a site that my co-worker put me on to tonight that divulges pretty much all of our personal information - including full address and phone number. No subscription required. For about $3.00 a month - your stalker can have full access to your credit score, social sites you subscribe to AND sites you like to visit. All those tweets from the mall - if your Twitter page is public - they'll find you.

You do have the option to remove your information - please take a few minutes to do so.

I don't like that shxt one bit. At all. Just to show you how real it gets - peep my info below.

I post it simply because. The person dumb enough to show up at my house will get what they deserve.

PS: If I tagged you in this post on Facebook - chances are I found your name there, too.

Tell a friend to tell a friend - everyone should remove their personal information from the site.

See if you're listed here.

Then tell me you didn't shiver when you found yourself there...
